Meshpoints mission is to provide practical support to innovation facilitators in regional WA. By leading collaborative initiatives across regions and through a combination of mentoring and tailored support, we will build capacity and enable practitioners in regional locations and ventures. We will advise local, regional and state government to shape policy to support entrepreneurial activity in the regions.


Impact driven - Everything we do needs to have a positive impact. We strive to make the largest positive impact we can with the resources we have.

Collaboration (connected ubiquitously) - Being connected and collaborative is in our DNA- it’s also the name of the organisation. we focus the systems and process that keep regional practitioners connected to each other and  government agencies. Every connection is an opportunity for new ideas to be formed, developed and be moved forward.

Lead from the front - Where there’s a spark, we will start a fire.We kindle the fire (but there’s one kind of fire that we don’t support: burning money with no outcomes to show for it) We don't wait for others to do things, if we see value in doing it we move forward and get it done.

Supporting / Enabling / Caring / Selflessness - We always make time to help and support each other as a team and as a wider community of practitioners

Sustainability - As an entity, we’re sustainable, in every sense of the word.

As well as developing local and statewide expertise, many very useful resources (financial models, templates, procedures) have been developed that are licensed for re-used in other regions.

Current projects include:

Practitioner Network - Statewide

Meshpoints has been growing a statewide practitioner network supported through volunteers and a percentage of earnings. This is at the core of our purpose and grows the number and quality of facilitators growing innovation in our regions. Details of activities are on the blog and details of qualifications and learning program on the Resources' page

Ecosystem Mapping and Report - South West

Meshpoints have been engaged by Business South West to do an initial mapping of the South West innovation ecosystem, and participatory assessment of its maturity. This will grow stakeholder relationships, make support for local innovations more visible, and enable strategic investment in the region's capacity.

The Web - Port Hedland

Meshpoints assisted local lead partners to attract funding for an incubator and programs Port Hedland. Since early 2017 we have been providing: 

  • specialist advice on: building design, business model development, community engagement and digital platforms for operations,
  • mentoring, recruitment and training for key staff to be involved in delivery,
  • planning and facilitation of and introductory public workshops.

The Edge - Newman

Meshpoints assisted with business model development, fit-out, pilot learning programs, digital engagement. We are mentoring local staff to lead development of the space and programs to deliver activation, social and economic outcomes.


Past projects include:

Growing Innovation - Albany and Great Southern

Meshpoints were engaged to deliver presentations, workshops, training and recommendations to an alliance of organisations in the Great Southern. We efficiently delivered both site-specific advice, training in facilitation and startup methodologies, and an initial roadmap for innovation across the region.

Regional Addendum to the State Innovation Strategy - Statewide

Meshpoints worked with practitioners from every region to draft a prioritised strategy for growing innovation in the regions. The draft strategy framework enables easy assessment of the relative the maturity of 'ecosystem' in each region. The final draft document was accepted by the state agency, with contents informing the development of the approach taken by the new State government. As part of the process we reviewed all the relevant precedent strategies from around Australia and developed recommendations relevant to every region.



Meshpoints was set up in 2015 by Pollinators and Spacecubed in response to regular requests for support from other regions, and identification of the need and opportunity to grow innovation capacity in the regions. The Meshpoints model aims to create a generative means of growing regional innovation and capacity, as an alternative or complement to government-funding-dependency and city-based commercial fly-in-fly-out consultancies. Now auspiced by Spacecubed, Meshpoints both:

  1. Delivers professional advice, mentoring, operational support and services on a commercial basis using regional contractors, and

  2. Supports a voluntary network of practitioners using volunteers, a percentage of commercial earnings and external funding.


We are quite specific in what we do and don't do, recognising the particular value we bring and role in the ecosystem. We only work in regions where there is a local facilitator or organisation who will lead implementation. We do focus on operational support for governments, industry and community to grow innovation in the regions, including:

  • Conduct ecosystem mapping and evaluation projects to identify priority actions for growing innovation ecosystems

  • Assist with project development and funding applications using specifically-developed operational and financial models

  • Provide operational implementation support including mentoring, training, group learning modules

  • Space advice as it relates to incubators and coworking spaces including design, fit-out and associated costings

  • Implement customer-facing and operational software systems tailored to meet local needs and state-wide synergies

  • Provide template policies, procedures, program designs to support delivery of community, space and learning services

  • Initial learning program delivery that builds local capacity for next time e.g. workshops, pre-accelerator programs, hackathons

We tend not to: write strategic plans, business cases, or whole funding applications. We aren't architects, construction managers and don't lead on procurement processes. We work very well alongside professionals who focus on those areas of expertise : )-
